Review: Caolion Premium Hot & Cool Pore Pack Duo

Back when I had extremely oily skin - which is pretty much all my life, pre-Korean beauty products - and believed the kind of thinking where "if it hurts, it works," I used to love clay masks that would leave my skin tight and stripped of alltheoils.
The annoying oiliness left with Western beauty products, the pores remained. Sure, they are much cleaner these days than they used to be, but we all know nothing will actually shrink them, so I have tried products that make them seem shrunk.
That's how I picked up a large sample of the Caolion Premium Hot & Cool Pore Pack Duo.

What it claims to do:
"The hot Premium Blackhead Steam Pore Pack cleans pore impurities and blackheads, and exfoliates dead skin cells with grain powder and steaming effects—resulting in firmer-looking skin. It contains charcoal powder to extract excess sebum and residual makeup that clog pores and 100 percent natural sparkling water to deeply penetrate into skin for enriched moisture. The cool Premium Pore Original Pack tightens up enlarged pores, calming and revitalizing the skin. It’s enriched with 100 percent Alaskan glacial water to keep skin moist even after the removal of mask while menthol enables a cooling effect to soothe troubled skin effectively."

Step One - Premium Blackhead Steam Pore Pack

The first "hot" pack goes on very smoothly, is easy to spread, and does make you feel like it's warming up your skin; and, not only for the first few seconds like the Innisfree Sea Weed Capsule Pack does. It's not uncomfortable, though, and since the mask is so smooth, I accidentally left it on for longer than the five-to-ten-minutes recommendation, which I don't believe made any sort of difference, given that the other times I had used it, I had followed the instructions to a T.

It is very easy to remove - I used cotton pads soaked in water, and finally got rid of the leftover by splashing my face with warm water, - and it leaves my skin super-soft. I didn't see much of a difference pore-wise, but my skin seemed to love this stuff.

Step Two - Premium Pore Original Pack

The second mask is the exact opposite of the first one: its consistency is more that of a clay pack, so it isn't quite as easy to spread, it's very cool against the skin, and it smells slightly minty.
After the recommended ten-to-fifteen minutes, it's not as simple to remove as the mask in the first step; however, it's nowhere near as bad as most Western pore masks I had used. It does take a little work, but it's worth it: once my skin is clean, it looks like I had used a real-life Instagram filter on it. My pores do seem smaller, and my skin is very matte, yet healthy-looking. Any redness is gone, and it feels like it's a brand new, fresh canvas, if that makes any sense.

If you have ever had issues with large pores and/or oily/congested skin, I know that you yearn for this feeling, too. These days, this isn't necessarily my main goal, skincare-wise, but I know exactly what it felt like when I always seemed to have a thick layer of oil suffocating my entire face, no matter what I did, clogging up my pores. If/when this is how you feel, this might be the answer to your issue.

Recommend? Yes. These aren't the cheapest wash-off masks on the market, but they do what they claim to do. They will nourish your skin while helping you get rid of the oily feeling, without stripping it.

Where to buy? The two-mask pack is available at Sephora or at a severely inflated price on Amazon, if you're in the United States, or you can buy them separately on eBay (Steam Pack and Original Pack.) Unfortunately, I am not seeing any samples right now, but that might change in the future.
