Review: Laneige Water Drop Tinted Lip Balm #2 Juicy Plum

I am not a lipstick person, but I certainly am a tinted balm person. I like that "my lips, only better" look and feeling. When my father and his wife recently went to Malaysia and Singapore, she certainly did some AB shopping, and one of the gifts she brought home for me was the Laneige Water Drop Tinted Lip Balm in color #2 Juicy Plum. While I haven't used many Laneige products yet (my skin didn't like the 'cones in their famous sleeping pack, but I still use their overnight lip mask daily,) I was really excited about trying this balm.

About the brand:
"Through 20 years of research on the interaction between water and skin, Laneige discovered that water not only plays an important role in moisturizing but is also effective in boosting the effects of brightening and anti-aging products.
Laneige developed its own exclusive technology, Water Science, to help bold and confident young women get naturally hydrated, supple skin anytime, anywhere with the power of water, we present to you the gift of clear, radiant skin." (source)

What this product claims to achieve:
1. Moisturizing properties upgraded using the Moisture Locking System and three-fruit seed extracts
- Moisture locking effect by preventing evaporation : Apricot kernel oil, Peach kernel oil, Prune pit oil, Evaporation of moisture.
2. Low-viscosity wetting oil from the Watery Melting System gives the formula a light, smooth texture
- The low-viscosity wetting oil in what is called Water Melting System seeps deep into skin.
- Watery texture for a "refreshing yet moisturizing" effect.
3. The color can be adjusted to your liking since it reacts to your natural lip color and moisture levels
- Tint reacts to moisture thanks to the moisture tinting effect.
- Giving the lips a brighter, more natural transparent tint (source)

This lip balm is in a rather heavy, well-built, but elegant packaging whose cap closes tightly, so it should be safe to carry around in a purse.
It has a very detectable, very pleasant - to me - berry smell; if you have used Laneige's overnight lip mask, this scent will not be unfamiliar to you.
I do not think the shade has anything to do with the color of plums, like the name would suggest.

As you can see, at first glance, the tint is barely there. You would think that it would make no real difference when worn on your lips; however, you would be mistaken.

For one thing, the color is somewhat buildable. Of course, do not think lip tint or lipstick buildable; however, the tint does become more obvious as you apply more than one layers of this product.

Also, and I have no idea how that works, but the manufacturer's claim of "tint reacts to moisture thanks to the moisture tinting effect" - whatever that means - must be true. The color does become more obvious a minute or two after one is done with the application itself.

This balm - unlike other, similar products - doesn't feel sticky or tacky at all; it is, in fact, very smooth, light, and soft on the lips. It does feel very hydrating, too, as if I have injected water into my lips.
It fades gradually, over four-to-five hours of regular wear, and because of its texture and color, it's very easy to apply even if you don't have a pocket mirror with you.

Recommend? Yes. This lip balm feels light, luxurious, and very hydrating, and it is perfect for daywear for practically any occasion, be it school work, or running errands.

Where to buy? It currently costs USD 17.83 on Jolse, USD 21.19 on W2Beauty, and USD 17.51+ on eBay (with free shipping.)
